NHMRC Centre of Clinical Research Excellence – Gait Analysis & Gait Rehabilitation

The Gait CCRE brings together research scientists, biomedical engineers, and healthcare professionals at the Royal Children's Hospital Gait Analysis Lab, the Monash University Ageing Research Centre, LaTrobe University's Musculoskeletal Research Centre, and the Biomechanical Engineering Laboratory at the University of Melbourne. Computational modelling plays a major role in the Centre.

The modelling and computer simulation framework developed in Professor Pandy's laboratory are being used to (a) interpret and explain biomechanical data recorded for a variety of walking disorders ranging from cerebral palsy to stroke gait; and (b) evaluate various surgical, pharmaceutical, and physiotherapy treatments prescribed for gait rehabilitation.

The Centre was created in January 2004 and is funded for $2M over 5 years. It currently supports the activities of 6 senior academics, 4 postdoctoral researchers, and 3 PhD students.
