biography

Michael Brear is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. His current research and teaching are mainly in the fields of combustion, control and thermodynamics. He joined the Department in 2001, having previously completed a PhD at Cambridge University and post doctoral research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

research interests

Michael Brear’s present research interests are in the thermodynamics, fluid dynamics and control of combustion engines. These include theoretical, experimental and numerical studies of thermoacoustic combustion instability in gas turbines, fundamental studies of laminar premixed flames, direct injected spark ignition (DISI) engines, fuel sprays and gas turbine dynamics. Current projects and postgraduate supervision
